Challenges of Post-operative Facial Symmetry with Plastic Closure of Skin Defects

    Reconstruction of skin defects of the head and neck requires full commitment of the plastic surgeon and detailed planning when choosing surgical method. Techniques which can be extremely useful for one region of the face may not be applicable to other neighboring region. They must comply with the so-called aesthetic anatomical units of the face like forehead, periorbital region, nose, lips, cheeks and chin, using possibly the tissues from the same anatomical area and if necessary the crossing and scarring to be placed in the natural folds of the face and match with the so-called relaxed skin tension lines (RSTLs). Availability of even the smallest deformation and asymmetry of the face is easily visible.
